Supposed to be an at home day today but we decided we would go for a walk along the river - started at Ponte S. Angelo and got as far as Trastevere - Ponte Sisto before we decided to head to the top of the hill - the road took us around some of the areas we went to on the tour the other day - certainly a very different atmosphere in the day than in the evening……
Found ourselves at the top of the hill - the Janiculum Hill (one of the seven of Rome) - magnificent view - a big area to celebrate Garibaldi and the ‘saving’ of Rome - beautiful view over Rome and into the hills on the outskirts - quite cold, but worth it. Today was a ‘Pantheon’ day - the photos I took were trying to orient to the Pantheon so we knew where we were. The easier landmark was the Vittorio monument - that white wedding cake really does stand out. The Forum and Colosseum really can’t be seen from a distance, so it is trickier to use them as landmarks, and the Pantheon tends to blur into the red roofs of the building around it.
Vittorio's monument in the distance.....

Anna Garibaldi - behind every good man.........
Headed home for lunch - that glorious Porchetta on Panini with tomatoes - lovely - managed not to drink wine until 6 o’clock drinks at the irish pub (where else?) I slept for 3 hours in the middle of the day - graham did the housework and then went for drink. Used the internet at the pub to update the girls and make sure all is well with the world at home. Had a lovely meal down the road from If Fico - fried zucchini flowers, mussels, spaghetti bolognese, lasagna and then sacher torte for desert - excellento! Very good bottle of prosseco to help it all go down - 50 Euros so good value as well….
