Relatively easy trip down on the altostrati - got a bit confused with the toll - you get a ticket at one place and pay at another….. Took a wrong turn after we got off the altostrati at Naples and went round the long way to the Amalfi coast - the road from Salerno to Praiano was certainly a challenge - Graham did very well and tried not to get too stressed with me sucking in my breath every time I thought we might scrape the wall!!! Some really pretty towns, but we didn’t really see them because we were so focussed on the road!
Finally arrived and after getting lost (again) in Praiano met up with Luca who let us into the house - a thirteenth century monastery - really high ceilings and two foot deep walls - beautiful view just like on the website - right down the coast and across the bay - the weather was a bit drizzly so seemed to be in a mist…. Took a couple of days before we got to see it in all its glory…. Right next to a church which rings the time on the hour, and every fifteen minutes!
Walked down the road and around the corner to Hotel Margharita for dinner - quite nice and fairly good value.
Welcome to Praiano!
View from our terrace - the road hugs the coast line and the houses are built on the hill.....we were about halfway up the hill.....
the view from the terrace up from our apartment
just down near the tree on the left was the little deli we bought our bus ticket from each day
Our apartment roof is the one on the left.....
The beautiful church at Vettica, down the hill a bit towards Positano
the farms go straight up as well as the houses - quite remarkable how they use every bit of it!
the road really hugs the coast, and sometimes even juts out over it!Imagine buses, cars and motor bikes all trying to get through at once - no wonder there was so much beeping!
Positano in the distance with the little church at Vettica in the middle distance.... glorious!
