Day 29 - Monday 3 May - Impruneta to Rome via Orvieto

Drove to Roma via Orvieto to return the car early and stayed in the seediest part of town - first time we felt a bit unsafe - had a lovely dinner in a very friendly restaurant next to the hotel.

The town of Orvieto was built on the top of this cliff - if you catch the train from Rome, you get to the station and  have to take the Furniculare up to the top.
The whole town was very steep....
And through the buildings, at the the end of the street, we saw the most beautiful church......
The Duomo of Orvieto really does glisten in the sunshine - apparently if you are there at sundown, it is even more spectacular
and on the other side, painted like on the Duomo of Florence
we had lunch in this little cafe in the square and watched yet more students climbing over the steps of the church... Graham still didn't feel well from the seafood kebab the night before
a close up of the walls built on top of the cliff...... a very lovely town and worth the stop on the way back from Florence - almost made up for the fact that we didn't go via Pisa - the original plan....
